TURNING A BLIND EYE

Boom !!!

In  a few moments a lively place was completely devastated into bits and pieces claiming a good amount of lives.

Yes, I am talking about the recent massive explosion that happened at the port in Beirut, Lebanon.

More than 100 people died, more than 5000 wounded and some 3,00,000 people were displaced from their homes. The cause of the explosion is claimed to be 2750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate that was stored in Beirut port-side warehouse and was blown up.

I will not dig in much as you might already have read enough articles to grab the required information. But the one thing that caught my eye was that the origin of the disaster began 6 years ago when a Russian-owned troubled cargo ship made an unscheduled stop in the city and despite knowing the danger, a negligent behaviour of the officials was seen which led to such a catastrophe.

Now what are we actually doing wrong altogether ? And what was my motive of taking the Lebanon incident as an instance?

Let’s decode !

We observed that the Lebanese officials knew the danger of storing the ammonium nitrate at the port but still failed to act and due to their sloppy behavior, a disaster took place claiming a good amount of lives. If they had had acted wisely at the right place and at the right time, people would not have been in distress suffering from pain, being homeless, dealing with food shortage, air pollution and what not, the list is so long.

Now , this was one instance. We have been doing the similar things all the way long!!

We have been neglecting things all the time. Our climate is changing at a rapid rate and we have been thrusting it aside since decades.

We are living in a world where we know the danger and the repercussions of our acts but we still choose to ignore.

Did the global warming rate plummet lately?

No, it has been rapidly increasing ever since. The carbon emissions have augmented, the sea levels are rising, the glaciers are melting, the temperature of the oceans is rising, the intensity of hurricanes and typhoons have increased off late.

There would be a time when we all will be trapped badly in this web and then it would be impossible to look back.

We have been overlooking such important things may be because we don’t think long term and may be because the repercussions are not so visible to us right now. But deep down we all are aware of the long term repercussions and still turn a blind eye.

Let us just not ignore the reality and put every ounce of our efforts to revamp the situation.

Thanks for reading!
