Live in Present !

The past keeps holding us back and the future, this devil doesn’t let us live in present.
God damn, then where do we go !!
Hey everyone, this is Reeti and recently I watched the movie “Dil Bechara” based on John Green’s novel “The Fault in Our Stars”. To be honest, I have not read this novel before so I had no idea about the storyline.
For those who have not watched the movie yet, to brief you- it is an emotional journey of two hopelessly in love youngsters “Kizie” and “Manny” who are suffering from cancer.
Don’t worry, I won’t reveal the climax.
This movie starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi hit me quite hard.
But why?
After watching the movie, I just realized that our future is so uncertain.
I have no idea, if there is a tomorrow waiting for me but still I am planning my future like a psychotic.
I am not saying that planning is useless, if we don’t plan then probably the goals that we set for ourselves will just not get fulfilled.
But we are not just planning, we are living in the future. I don’t remember when was the last time I actually spent my day just living in the moment and not contemplating my tomorrow or what will happen to me five years from now.
My mind is always preoccupied with the thoughts about my future.
We humans tend to day-dream most of the time. Foreseeing our future makes us feel good, frenzy, sometimes worried and sometimes it just confuses us. Still we choose to live one step ahead of our day.
It feels like it was only yesterday when we were small kids who used to go to school carrying those heavy bags, clueless of what is going to happen later in life. That was the time when all we worried about was how we are going to finish our homework or how we are going to evade mom’s scolding or how we are going to hit that sanctuary like “Sachin” in that small playground.
Felt nostalgic, no?
I did too !
We often hear people exclaiming “ I wish I could go back to my old days”.
That is probably because you don’t like your present or what you can say is that you don’t like your present because you are not living in it. You are worrying about the things that have not happened yet.
Let me give you an example. Here I am writing this blog, and at the same time I am thinking that what will be the response of my readers. Will they even like it?
Or just ponder once, we are sitting in our apartments right now and probably thinking when will this Covid end, when will we again go to our schools and offices, or when will the things come to a normal state again. We are just thinking, thinking and thinking !
What we are forgetting is that future is not in our hands.
Even the title of my blog says that future is our dicey companion. Companion because it always stays with us and dicey because it is uncertain. And a dicey companion can be dangerous for us.
Rather than pondering over things we can’t control let us focus on our present which is right now in our hands. It’s a rare chance that our future turns out what we thought it to be.
So, let’s try to live in the moment. You never know if there is even a tomorrow waiting for us.
Stay healthy, stay safe.
Let me know if you want me to come up with a blog where we can get to know how we can cope up with our anxiety to know the future and how to live in present.
Thanks for reading.
